How to repurpose one video across every platform
Turning one long-form video into a week of posts, without posting the identical thing in five places and annoying the people who follow you twice.
Repurposing gets a bad name because most of it is lazy: the same clip, with the same caption, pasted everywhere, watermark and all. Done properly it is the highest-leverage thing you can do with a video you have already made.
Plan the clips before you film
The best short clips are self-contained: they make sense to someone who has not seen the long video. That almost never happens by accident when you go hunting afterwards.
While you are scripting, mark two or three moments that would stand alone. Then when you film, shoot those moments with a little extra air at each end, and frame them so a vertical crop still works.
Cut for three shapes, not one
- Long form stays as it is
- Vertical short, 20 to 60 seconds, one idea, with the hook in the first two seconds
- Still or carousel, for the platforms where a static post outperforms video
One filming session, three shapes. That is where the leverage comes from.
Rewrite the caption for each place
This is where most people stop, and it is most of the value. The same words rarely work in two places: one platform's audience wants the context up front, another wants a hook and nothing else, another reads the first line and nothing more.
Write the caption once, then adjust it per platform rather than pasting it.
Space them out
Publishing everything within an hour means the people who follow you in two places see the same thing twice on the same day, and you burn a week of material in an afternoon.
Spread the clips across the days after the main video goes out. You get more surface area, and each post can point back at the full video while it is still new.
Let each platform earn its place
Repurposing to a platform you do not care about is still work. If a channel has never sent you a single subscriber or sale, dropping it is a perfectly good decision, and it buys back time for the ones that do.
Doing this in CoveDeck
- Mark a project as short form or long form so the whole pipeline knows which shape you are making.
- The asset vault keeps the long cut and every clip together under the same project.
- Schedule a post once and send it to several channels at once, with a shared caption you can tweak per platform before it goes out.
- Platform settings cover the per-channel details, and caption snippets hold the outros, hashtag sets, and sponsor disclosures you reuse every time.
- Evergreen reposting puts a post that did well back in the queue later.
